Cars strike cows on Route 58; cows apparently survive

WELLINGTON TWP. — A pair of wandering cows caused a surprise and a couple of bruises about 6:40 p.m. Wednesday when they wandered onto a highway, causing two cars to wreck.

State Highway Patrol Dispatcher Kevin Koney said Edward Farley, 48, of Elyria, was driving a 2007 Dodge Ram south and Carolyn C. Black, 67, of Wellington, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Impala north on state Route 58 near Whitney Road.

The cows walked into the roadway, and the two vehicles weren’t able to screech to a halt before hitting the animals, Koney said.

Neither driver needed medical attention, and there was only minor damage to the Impala, he said.

One of the cows wandered away, apparently unhurt, and there’s no indication that either cow was fatally injured after the collisions, Koney said.
