William “Beef” Horvath

William "Beef" Horvath, 93, of Lorain, died Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at his son’s home in Oberlin, following a recent decline in health. He was born December 6, 1914 in Lorain and had been a lifelong resident.

He worked as a shipbuilder for 40 years at American Ship in Lorain. He and his late wife, Lucille also operated a neighborhood tavern on E Street near the shipyard.

He is survived by his sons, Richard Horvath of Amherst and William Horvath of Oberlin; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; sisters, Elsie McKinnon and Irene Thomas, both of Lorain; brother, John Horvath of Lorain.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Lucille (nee Karpinski), in August 2006; and parents, John and Rose (nee Pongracz) Horvath.

Friends may call on Monday, December 31, 2007 from 9 A.M. until the time of Service at 11 A.M. at the Dombrowski-Humphrey-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. Interment will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
