Roy D. Zimberlin

Roy D. Zimberlin, 86, of Wakeman, died Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at Community Health Partners in Lorain. He was born May 30, 1921 in Gallitzin, Pennsylvania and moved to Ohio in the 1950′s.

Roy was a sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He flew 30 missions over Germany and France including D-day as a waist gunner with the 410t "Bomb Squadron, 94" Bomb Group. He was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart, air medal, good conduct medal, and European, African, Middle Eastern Service medal. Roy was an active member of the Henrietta United Methodist Church since moving to Ohio. He was also a Mathematics Teacher at Clearview High School for 25 years. Roy enjoyed reading, gardening, golfing and fishing.

He is survived by his sons, Harold (wife Linda) of Wakeman, Darryl (wife Maryellen) of Springfield, Curtis of Wakeman; and daughter, Rebecca Zimberlin of Vermilion; grandsons, Christopher and Jarred Zimberlin; and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera (nee Wess) Zimberlin; parents, Albert and Helen Zimberlin; and brother, Harold Zimberlin.

There will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held at Henrietta United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at 11 A.M.
