Officers gather to honor Mansfield officer killed in fight

MANSFIELD — Uniformed police from throughout northern Ohio gathered Saturday to honor a Mansfield police officer who died in a confrontation with his brother.

According to police, Brian Evans was shot to death by his brother Wednesday in rural Richland County when he attempted to help a neighbor, who was also shot and killed.

Thirty-nine-year-old Larry Evans pleaded not guilty Thursday to two counts of aggravated murder and one count of attempted aggravated murder. His bond was set at $1 million.

Saturday’s service for Brian Evans was held at the Mansfield Senior High School gymnasium. A memorial college fund has been established for Evans’ 10-year-old daughter at Chase Bank.
