ELYRIA — What a crappy way to end the year.
Sometime late Sunday or early Monday, someone splattered feces across the windows, doors and sidewalk leading into Elyria City
Hall’s Court Street entrance, Assistant Safety-Service Director Bill Ogle said.

An Elyria police officer delivering a bit of mail to city workers discovered the mess, Elyria police Lt. Andy Eichenlaub said.
Ogle suspected the feces amounted to at least a bagful being strewn over the area.
“It’s just sick,” several employees said, offering their obvious disgust at the grotesque act, especially the day before a holiday.
Employees were scheduled to work until noon Monday, since it was New Year’s Eve.
A city water truck arrived on the scene just after 8 a.m. and hosed down the entire area — building, windows and sidewalk — and had the mess cleaned up within an hour.
Eichenlaub said an initial police report indicated that someone had thrown fecal matter in front of City Hall, though the report didn’t indicate the actual extent of the damage.
Photos of the vandalism, taken by city employees, showed a substantial amount of feces splattered about the area.
Eichenlaub said there are no suspects, though possible criminal charges for anyone involved would include criminal mischief. The incident was not considered vandalism because the damage was not permanent.
City workers said they have received no calls in recent days from disgruntled residents, nor have they had any reports of sanitary sewers or storm sewers backing up into homes.
There are no security cameras at City Hall that would have recorded the area where the vandals struck, Ogle said.
