The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Jean C. Shagie (nee Tillack), 70, of Lorain, died Sunday, December 30, 2007, at Community Health Partners in Lorain following a long illness.
She was born March 7, 1937, in Elyria and had lived in Lorain since 1968, moving from Elyria.
She graduated from Elyria High School in 1954 and from M.B. Johnson School of Nursing in Elyria as a licensed practical nurse. She worked as an LPN at Elyria Memorial Hospital from 1967-69.
She was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain and enjoyed flower gardening and caring for her pet cats and dog.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Donald J. Shagie; son, Keith Shagie of Lorain; brother, Jack Tillack of Lorain.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary (nee Swetz) Tillack.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2008, at Dombrowski-Humphrey-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Ave., Lorain.
A funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2008, at the funeral home with the Rev. Kenneth Wolnowski, pastor of the Catholic Church of St. Peter, officiating.
