Planning for Hannah Montana
CLEVELAND — Ready or not, in a few short hours hordes of ’tween girls will descend upon downtown Cleveland, thrusting the city into full Hannah Montana hysterics.
For those going to the concert — built up by some as the hottest one of the year — this day couldn’t come any sooner. But before you walk out the door decked out from head to toe in glittery garb — as every true fan knows that is how the pop diva rolls — there are a just few things you should know.
1. When and where
The Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana “Best of Both Worlds” concert kicks off at 7 p.m. today at the Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
The Jonas Brothers, a band of brothers Kevin, Joe and Nick, will open the show with songs from the group’s latest album.
2. Picking up tickets from will-call
This concert features a special will-call policy for ticket holders.
All tickets will be available for pick-up at the arena box office anytime after noon today.
The person who purchased the tickets must pick up the tickets. Bring a photo ID, the credit card used to purchase the tickets and the confirmation number from the Ticketmaster transaction.
No name changes can be made to the tickets being held in will call. Fans are encouraged to pick up their tickets beginning early that afternoon, if possible.
3. Drop-off and pick-up
Traffic will be quite busy around the arena. Your best bet will be to park and walk to a designated drop-off/pick-up spot. Keep cell phones handy because you will need them.
If you want to stick around but will not be accompanying your kid, a special parents club has been set up for parents and guardians of underage ticketholders. Parents and children should enter at the Time Warner Cable entrance of the arena, located at the corner of Ontario and Huron streets. Parents will sign-in at the security desk located to the right of the lobby before the turnstiles and children with tickets will proceed through the turnstiles to their seats.
Without a ticket, this is as far as parents will be permitted to go.
When you sign-in, you will receive a Parents Club badge and be escorted to a designated location. You must stay there until the end of the concert. Parents and children should select a location to meet following the concert. In case of emergency, bring cell phones and write down your children’s seat location.
4. Parking
The Gateway North and East garages can accommodate 3,300 cars and are connected to the arena via covered walkways. There is an additional charge for parking that is not covered with concert admission. Those spots go fast and typically can cost upwards of $20 for special events like the concert.
There are many city-owned parking lots located within a 5- to 10-minute walk to the arena. Expect to pay a premium for lots located nearest the arena. Cheaper spots will mean a longer walk.
5. Getting fed
Anyone looking to grab a quick bite to eat before the 7 p.m. show is in luck. There are several restaurants in the area to choose from including the Hard Rock Cafe in adjacent Tower City Center. For a full downloadable map of downtown eateries, visit www.positivelycleveland.com.
At the arena, there will be concession stands open that offer kid-friendly cuisine such as pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos and popcorn.
6. Merchandise and souvenirs stands
Merchandise galore will be available for this concert.
There will be an outside merchandise tent located on the Gateway Plaza side of the arena (between The Q and Jacobs Field) selling a full assortment of Hannah Montana, Miley Cyrus and Jonas Brothers concert merchandise beginning at 11 a.m. today. The tent will be open all day and during the concert for the public to shop even if they do not have tickets to attend the show.
A specialty stand will be available across from the Cavaliers Team Shop inside the gates beginning at 10 a.m. and remain open to the public until 5 p.m.
For concert-goers, roaming vendors will also be selling concert merchandise.
