ELYRIA TWP. – A 47-year-old Cleveland man has been charged with driving under the influence in connection with a three-car crash Sunday night on northbound Route 57 near Griswold Road.

According to police, the accident, which injured at least four people, occurred when Eric Munoz, 47, of Cleveland , failed to maintain an assured clear distance from an earlier crash at the same site.

Trooper Lance Deshuk of the Ohio Highway Patrol said firefighters had to use a hydraulic device to remove two women from their car.

The accident happened around 9 p.m.

“We already had one crash and when we were working to get cars  off the roadway, the other one occurred,” said Dispatcher Jennifer Smolka.

I am a very lucky woman! Last night I was sitting in front of that accident waiting for the other one to clear with my two kids in the car. I believe god was on my side because the car behind me must have been far enough behind me that when the car started to pile up they were just inches from my car and my car was untouched. I only thank god. I feel very sad for everyone else that was injured in this accident and I hope that guy that caused the accident will be puinshed the way he should be.

DUI should be a felony the 1st time with punishment of losing your car and license for 5 years and minimum of 6 months in jail. That is the only way to stop these people from drinking and driving!

I personally feel that they should start going after the establishments that continue to serve these people booze when they have already had more then they should….Think about it…the next person may have been one of your loved ones and the guilty person may have had that last drink at your establishment….Scarie thought isnt it…Start going after the bars and their employees

DUI sucks, but it is not the responsibility of the bars and or/ employees of said establishments to judge who has had too much. Some people hide it well. Do you want a BAC breathalizer on every bar patron before they purchase a drink? Not realistic. I do believe that if the penalties were stiffer, it might make people think twice.
