The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Commodore "Fuzzy" Bowens Sr., 55, died Saturday morning, January 12, 2008, at Community Health Partners, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
He was born January 9, 1953, in Lorain where he had been a lifelong resident. He attended Lorain City Public Schools, graduating from Admiral King High School.
He worked in the Bar Mill at U.S. Steel, retiring after more than 30 years of service. He enjoyed music and writing songs. He played bass guitar, keyboard, and drums. He was a former member of Second Baptist Church in Lorain and was a former musician at the Body of Christ Church in Lorain. He also played for area groups and was a member of the former Lorain band, Black Mist.
He will be sadly missed by his daughter, LaKisha Tenea Bowens of Lorain; son, Commodore Bowens Jr. and daughter-in-law, Malinda Bowens, both of Elyria; sisters, Cora Jean Bowens, Jeanette L. Bowens, and Addie L. Bowens, all of Lorain; brothers, Percy Bowens Jr. of Elyria, and Dawoud Kareem Muhammad, IBN Bowens, of Lakewood; and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.
Mr. Bowens was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Mary Ellen (nee Gross) Bowens, Sr.; sister, Lula Mae Chapman; and brothers, Robert Ray and James Wells-Bowens.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 18, 2008, until noon services at Fairfield Christian Center, 2002 E. 28th St., Lorain, where Bishop Dennis R. Johnson is pastor. The Rev. Loversier Lewis, pastor of Second Baptist Church in Lorain, will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
