The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present.  Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

James P. Stump

James P. Stump, 79, of Strongsville and formerly of Amherst, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2008 in Southwest General Hospital in Middleburg Hts. after a brief illness. He was born July 4, 1928 in Ingleside, West Virginia and had lived in Lorain County for over 30 years.

He attended Buckeye Christian Assembly in Medina and was formerly employed in Elyria as an apartment building manager. Mr. Stump loved being around his family and was loved by many.

He is survived by his daughter, with whom he made his home, Eunice Roten of Strongsville; stepdaughter, Lois Rose of Elyria and stepson, David Covalt of Texas. Survivors also include his four grandchildren, Dawn Hensler of Elyria, Kathy Huffman of Coshocton, Greg Roten of Medina and Melissa Greenwalt of Coshocton. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; daughter, Wanda Griffith; stepson, Steve Covalt and grandson, Scott Roten; his parents, Kenneth and Deratha Stump; sisters, Martha, Ruby, Irene and brothers, Bill and Ralph.

Friends may call Monday, January 21, 2008 from 4 to 7 P.M. in the Blackburn-Duke Funeral Home, 1021 Main St., Grafton. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 A.M. Pastor Gerald Fritz and Rev. Oscar Agnew will officiate. Burial will be in River Road Cemetery, LaGrange Twp.
