A Wellington man who killed a woman in a 1992 drunken driving crash, but still managed to get a license despite a lifetime driving ban, is heading back to jail.

John Majka, 42, is scheduled to report to the county jail before 6 p.m. Thursday to start a six-month jail sentence. He pleaded guilty last year to charges stemming from the illegal license and was sentenced today by county Common Pleas Judge Chris Rothgery.

Majka had nothing to say before he was sentenced.

Cynthia Kurpely, the daughter of nurse Lynette Waters, who died in the crash 15 years ago, was in the courtroom. She wasn’t allowed to speak about Majka’s current case, but afterward said she was glad the issue was settled.

After leaving jail, where he will have work release privileges, Majka will be on probation for five years.

Rothgery told Majka that if he failed to abide by any of the probation sanctions, including staying away from drugs and alcohol, he will not hesitate to send him to prison for six years.
