To take the life of any man because you are to lazy to GET A JOB is ridiculous. A man who would give you the shirt off your back if you asked for it. I have witnessed him give people milk and cereal on credit. He would not extend the same courtesy for someone who needed beer and a pack of spokes but he was a very GREAT man. I will miss him tremendously and to the officers working this case: Catch Him. To the family my thoughts and prayers are with you!

We have all been there at least once. What used to be the old run down arcade located on Lorain’s Westside was transformed to a into a mini-mart years ago. I used to shop there daily as I grew from a teen into an adult. As a teen I tried buying cigarettes there, even though I left without the smokes I did leave with a father like ass chewing, a good old fashion shame on you if you will. Mr. Gonzalez was a stern but kind man. I recall one time I was short on funds for a gallon of milk, he did not turn me away. Though it was just .75 cents he let me slide on, the lesson will always remain in my mind. I left with a gallon of milk and the wisdom to help those when I can. I stopped in to see Mr. Gonzalez about two months ago, obviously not knowing that it would be for the last time. We talked small talk, I joked saying I was surprised he was still running the store in such a blightened neighborhood. He boldly told me he was staying there because if he left then the “punks” would win. I can still hear the determination in his voice but the anger on his face only lasted a second he then smiled as he handed me my change he said “it was good to see you again†as I packed my smokes against the counter I thanked him for being a fixture in the community and told him I’ll see him next time I was in the neighborhood He told me to be safe and called me friend. I told him to do the same as I walked out.
My prayers are with his family and with that troubled young man who committed this horrible crime.
