ELYRIA — A New Orleans man accused of injuring several people in an accident Sept. 12 in Avon Lake has been indicted on charges of aggravated vehicular assault and aggravated assault.

Richard J. McCormick, 21, was indicted earlier on charges of tampering with evidence, three counts of possession of drugs, possession of drug abuse instruments, falsification and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

County Prosecutor Dennis Will said McCormick is accused of rear-ending another car at state Route 83 and Lake Road. People in his car and the other vehicle were injured, Will said.

Residue of heroin and other drugs were found on items thrown away near the accident scene, Will said.
