Machine-break shuts Ford

AVON
LAKE – About 1,900 Ford workers got today off while mechanics try to fix an equipment malfunction at the Avon Lake Ford plant, UAW Local 200 President Tim Donovan said.
The afternoon shift is being instructed not to report at 4:30 p.m. as usual. Only 323 maintenance workers will have to show up, Donovan said.

Interest rate cut sparks Dow surge

NEW YORK — Wall Street surged higher Wednesday after the Federal Reserve, confirming that there is increasing stress on the economy, cut interest rates half a percentage point and indicated that more rate reductions are possible. The Dow Jones industrials rose more than 120 points.

WEATHER UPDATE — Closed schools to reopen tomorrow

Sorry, kids. School will reopen tomorrow.
Vermilion and Firelands Local schools were closed today due to freezing temperatures and high winds while Learwood Middle School and Eastview Elementary in Avon Lake were closed because of power outages.

BREAKING NEWS — Lorain man stabbed to death

A 25-year-old man was stabbed to death Tuesday night in Lorain.
Lorain police said Fletcher Windham was killed by his friend, 22-year-old Rafael Feliciano, during an argument in Feliciano’s Seneca Avenue apartment.
Feliciano has been charged with murder and is being held in the county jail.
