The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has been staging raids across Lorain County this morning as they make arrests in a poaching ring following an investigation that started after three separate calls were made to a poaching tip line operated by the state.
Sixty officers from ODNR started serving warrants and seizing evidence in the cases. Officials said 32 deer were killed over a period of two months and the poachers face 200 charges ranging from misdemeanors to felonies. The suspects are accused of crimes including shooting deer from their vehicles using guns and crossbows.
One of the homes raided was 1935 E. 42nd St. in Lorain. George Saltis Jr., 40, was taken into custody and officers hope to make as many eight total arrests today. Officers carted out mounted deer heads, two freezers, a gun, as well as a deer carcass from the Saltis home. Also in custody are George Saltis Sr., 66, and David Saltis, 39.
