The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Richard John Muzilla, 75, died Friday, January 25, 2008, following a seven-month illness of brain cancer, at his home in Henrietta Township. He was born in Lorain on November 13, 1932, and remained a lifelong resident of Ohio.
Richard was the owner of the Lorain Novelty Company, a business that his father established in 1920. He began working in the family business in 1956, and continued his career for 52 years becoming the president and owner.
Richard graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1954 and immediately served his country in the Army from 1954 to 1956. He was a Cub Scout master when his children were young, a 4-H leader when his children were older, and a Henrietta Township Zoning Board member after his children finished college. He also guided a number of Lorain County political campaigns.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ethel Marie Ergh Muzilla; five children, Mark (Grace) Muzilla of Riverside, Calif., Kevin (Jane) Muzilla of London, England, Greg (Lori) Muzilla of Wakeman, Amy (Robert Fullem) Muzilla of Ridgewood, N.J., and Jon Muzilla of Lakewood; and 12 grandchildren, Markas, Michael, Mischa, Katie, Lucy, Emma, Benjamin, Andrew, William, Catherine, Elizabeth, and Aidan. He is also survived by his brothers, Edward Muzilla of Amherst, Stephen Muzilla of Lorain, Raymond Muzilla of Vermilion; and sisters, Alexandria Ivancic of Elyria and Catherine Muzilla of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stephan Muzilla in 1965, who was born in Slovakia, and mother, Catherine Chrzaszcz in 1984, who was born in Lorain.
His family will receive friends and relatives from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, February 10, 2008, at Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Ave., Amherst.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday, February 11, 2008, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 410 W. Lorain St., Oberlin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Richard Muzilla’s name to the Cleveland Clinic, Neuro-Oncology Center, R-20 BTNC, 9500 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, OH 44195. Attn: George Lawerence.
