A winter short on flurries?

With a nod to The Who, meet the new forecast, same as the old forecast.

It seems as if, with an exception here and there, most of this winter’s dire predictions of smacks along the head by Mother Nature have fallen happily short of the mark.

If the storm predicted for today and tonight actually lives up to its advance billing, our luck could run out this time, according to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service. There’s a winter storm warning that predicts 1 to 2 inches of snow could be on the ground when we awaken, while up to 8 inches could fall today.

“It looks to go through the day Tuesday with snow heavy at times,” said Martin Thompson of the National Weather Service office at Hopkins International Airport in Cleveland.

Temperatures were expected to take a nose dive from the 30s to a low of 17 overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning, accompanied by wind gusts of up to 36 mph into the overnight hours.

“This is a developing system coming out of the west and the cold air looks to stick around,” Thompson said.

The forecast predicts that the area could receive snow showers Wednesday with blustery winds, and wind chills as low as zero, with a daytime high near 21 and nighttime low around 13.

The storm system is expected to move out of northern Ohio by Thursday morning.
