Robert D. Castle, 87, of Elyria, died Saturday, March 1, 2008 at EMH Regional Medical Center. He was born June 1, 1920 in Bellevue, and was a 1938 graduate of Elyria High School.
He served during World War II with the U.S. Army Air Force from 1941 to 1945. He was a technical sergeant and a tail gunner on a B-29 Superfortress stationed in Saipan flying missions to Tokyo and throughout the Pacific Theater. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with five oak leaf clusters, American Defense Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon with three battle stars and the American Theater Ribbon with one battle star.
He was employed for 44 years at the Pfaudler Company in Elyria as an Inventory Control Manager, retiring in 1983.
He was a member of LaPorte United Methodist Church and the Elyria United Polish Club.
He had enjoyed golf and bowling.
Robert is survived by sons, Randall D. Castle and Gregory A. Castle, both of Elyria, Jeffrey D. Castle of LaGrange; daughters, Patricia A. Krueger of Grafton, and Marcia J. Logan of Elyria; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Norma M. in 1998; parents, John D. and Mabel M. Castle; and a sister, Marie Licking.
Visitation will be Monday, March 3, 2008 from 5 to 8 P.M. at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria, where the funeral service will be Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at 11 A.M. Rev. Jonathan M. McCleery will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
