The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Stella Theresa Gammons (nee Solack), 88, of Avon Lake, died Friday, February 29, 2008 at the Main Street Care Center in Avon Lake. She was born January 16, 1920 in Amherst, and had been a resident within Lorain County all of her life, primarily in Amherst.
She had received her Masters Degree from Kent State University, certified in remedial reading and physical education. She taught from 1940 to 1970 in Amherst, Firelands, Elyria, Brownhelm and Sheffield. She was also a political reporter for the Lorain Morning Journal, an antique dealer, appraiser, and real estate agent for Tony Murello Builders.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst.
She was an avid antique collector and dealer appraiser. Stella enjoyed time spent with her family, playing bridge, golf, and Texas Hold-em. She had also traveled extensively.
She is survived by her sons, Herbert F. Gammons of Middleburg, Virginia, Patrick E. Gammons of Huron, and James J. Gammons of Catawba Island; 11 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Gammons in 1999; son, Mark E. Gammons in 2006; parents, Florian and Anna (nee Driubek) Solack; sisters, Kate Johnson and Victoria Solack; brothers, Malcolm, Frank and Edward Solack.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 5, 2008 from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South St., Vermilion. Closing prayers will be at the funeral home on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 9:15 A.M., followed by a 10 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Dr., Amherst. The Rev. Lawrence Martello, pastor, will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in Brownhelm Cemetery, Vermilion. Online condolences may be made at www.riddlefuneralhome.com.
