Police: Man rams truck, fights

LORAIN — A man rammed a tow truck driver about 5:15 a.m. Saturday after refusing to pay for roadside help and then fought back when officers tried to arrest him, Lorain police said.

Jonathon Contreras, 19, of Lorain, was charged with felonious assault, resisting arrest, obstructing official business, theft and driving under suspension.

A driver for Fritz’s Towing helped Contreras with car trouble and then followed him when Contreras sped away running stop signs, according to a police report.

Police said they caught up with Contreras on East 33rd Street near Clinton Avenue, but, instead of stopping, Contreras threw his car in reverse and slammed into the tow truck. Then, he started pulling the car around to either ram the police car or make a getaway, the report said.

Contreras wouldn’t get out of the car even when an officer drew a gun on him, police said, and he continued to struggle when they pulled him out, the report said.

Man claims that ‘J-Boner’ is robber
LORAIN — A man said he was robbed of his necklace, leather jacket and shoes early Saturday outside Pali’s Bar on Colorado Avenue by someone he knows only as J-Boner, a Lorain police report said.

Preston Saunders, 40, of Lorain, told police he went outside to have a cigarette just before 1:30 a.m. and asked J-Boner for a light. But instead, J-Boner punched Saunders in the face and started pulling his coat off, the report said.

Saunders gave up his shoes to avoid being assaulted again, he told police.
