Cross-shaped fish sticks get a bite

ELYRIA — Ebay snatched down the first listing for Victoria Landis’ “Good Friday Fish Sticks,” but worry not — the listing’s been resurrected.

The original posting was deleted at 5 a.m. Wednesday — 12 hours before the auction was supposed to end — because eBay perceived the $75 shipping cost as too high, Landis said. But with a little word magic, the listing was reposted later in the morning and the auction extended to today.

As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, it appeared at least one person in America wants the finger foods shaped like the crosses of Calvary Hill. A bid of $75 — the minimum Landis sought to sell them for, which includes overnight shipping in dry ice — was placed on the site at 1:35 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time.

It was the first actual bid Landis has received since placing the fish sticks up for auction early this week. Landis of Elyria said the three fish stick crosses resemble “a perfect little model of the hill of Calvary.’’ And she believes they would be a great — albeit unusual — item to add to any Easter decoration display.

At first, the listing went relatively unnoticed by the world. But a little media exposure changed all that.

There’s now a second listing for another set of “Good Friday Miracle Fish Sticks” on eBay — but it sounds like one in jest. The seller promises to cook them in the shape of crosses and sail them down the nearest river to the winning bidder.

Landis said she was busy fielding e-mailed questions, some nicer than others.

It has been more than the mother of seven thought she would have to contend with, but worth it if it accomplishes the goal at hand.

Landis wants to use the proceeds to buy a new van for her blended family of nine. That’s where the miracle part comes in, she said.
