Man thinks twice about robbery

LORAIN Lorain police are looking for a man who walked up to the door of a pizza shop with a gun Sunday apparently to rob the place before changing his mind and walking away.

An employee at Little Caesars Pizza on the 3000 block of Broadway told police that she saw a white man between 25 and 30 years old approach the shop’s front door about 6:15 p.m. with a black handgun.

The man then turned around and walked away, the employee told police, and walked toward a teal-colored, four-door station wagon.

Police couldn’t confirm whether the vehicle belonged to the suspect, but surveillance video shows the man approaching the store with a gun and then walking away.

The man is described as standing about 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing about 200 pounds. He was wearing a black stocking cap, black jacket, gray sweatshirt, blue pants and black and white shoes at the time of the incident.

Lorain police Sgt. Mark Carpentiere said the proximity of the shop to a busy intersection may have deterred the attempted robbery. Over the last decade, the pizza shop has been robbed seven times, the most recent of which occurred in October 2006, he said.

Anyone with information should call Lorain police Detective Ernest Sivert at (440) 204-2105.
