CLEVELAND — Heavy snow fell across northern Ohio Saturday to cap off a week that brought heavy rains and flooding across various regions of the state.

The early spring snow came a day after flood victims in the southern part of the state worked to clean up the mess left by some of the heaviest rain in years.
Snowfall amounts across northern Ohio Saturday ranged from about 8 inches in Cleveland to 4 inches in Toledo, according to the National Weather Service. The blast came two weeks after the Cleveland area saw a foot of snow.

Rivers continued to recede in southern Ohio, said Tamara McBride, a spokeswoman for the state’s Emergency Management Agency. A few points along the Scioto River remained above the flood stage but were expected to crest and recede by Saturday evening, she said.
Officials were assessing damage to homes in low-lying areas in areas along the Great Miami and Little Miami rivers near Cincinnati, McBride said. It was unclear if the counties will qualify for state or federal financial help.

The Ohio River, which crested Thursday just below the 52-foot flood stage at Cincinnati, could creep up Sunday as rainfall upriver makes its way downstream, said Dan Hawblitzel, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Wilmington. The forecast calls for mostly dry conditions through Monday, with a chance for rain on Tuesday, Hawblitzel said. The rainfall shouldn’t add to any flooding problems, he said.

Flooding from the same storm system that hit Ohio midweek has been blamed for at least 16 deaths across the Midwest — three in Ohio, including two people who were swept away after driving into high water.
