Women’s NCAA Tournament: Purdue gets past Utah

Kalika France and FahKara Malone scored 17 points each, and ninth-seeded Purdue beat No. 8 Utah 66-59 in West Lafayette, Ind., on Sunday.
Danielle Campbell added 14 points for the Boilermakers (19-14).
Leilani Mitchell had 14 points, nine assists and six rebounds for Utah, but also had seven turnovers. Morgan Warburton led the Utes (27-5) with 18 points, and Kalee Whipple added 14 points and nine rebounds.

Duke 78, Murray State 58

Wanisha Smith scored 16 points and the third-seeded Blue Devils never trailed, cruising past Murray State in College Park, Md.
Duke has been to the NCAA Tournament 15 times, including 14 straight, without losing its opening game.

Notre Dame 75, SMU 62

Ashley Barlow had 20 points, a career-high 12 rebounds, four steals and three assists, leading fifth-seeded Notre Dame into the second round to face Oklahoma.
The Fighting Irish (24-8) overcame 40.6 percent shooting from the floor with a 49-26 advantage on the glass, pulling down nearly as many offensive rebounds (24) as defensive in West Lafayette, Ind.

Oral Roberts 55

Tennessee can dominate even when Candace Parker doesn’t play her best.
With the national player of the year candidate in foul trouble and neutralized by Oral Roberts’ zone defense, the defending national champions called on their other talented players in West Lafayette, Ind.

Arizona St. 61, Temple 54

In College Park, Md., Arizona State followed an uncharacteristic poor first half with 5½ minutes of brilliant basketball, and that was enough to dismiss upset-minded Temple from the NCAA Tournament.

Oklahoma 69,
Illinois State 61

Fourth-seeded Oklahoma started the second half with a
13-0 run, then held off a late rally in West Lafayette, Ind.
