The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Robert J. Ferencz, 75, of Elyria, died Friday March 28, 2008 at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria after a short illness. He was born February 25, 1933 in Lorain and had resided in Elyria for the past 13 years moving from Avon.
Bob was a graduate of Clearview High School, where he played varsity football. He served with the US Army during the Korean War and was stationed in France. Bob worked for the Lorain County Engineer in the Highway Department as a heavy equipment operator for over 10 years, retiring in 1996. Prior to that he worked at US Steel and Thew Shovel in Lorain.
Bob was active in union affairs at his places of employment. He served as a grievance man at US Steel, Thew Shovel and the County Engineer and was a past union president of Local #1242 at Thew Shovel.
He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Elyria. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes and enjoyed gardening and playing with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kathy Ferencz (nee Barbuscak); son John (Louise) Ferencz of Wilton, Connecticut; daughters, Debbie (Erik) Samoson of Avon, Mary (Tom) Schoen of Lorain and Anne (Mike) Garcia of Columbus; 8 grandchildren; and sisters Anna Dombrowski of Lorain, Irene Kacsandi of Sheffield Village, and Ethel Bozik of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Ferencz in 1969 and Anna Ferencz (nee Holinda) in 1994; and sister Margaret Schremp in 2003.
The family will receive friends Monday, March 31, 2008, 3 to 7 P.M. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held in the funeral chapel on Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at 10:45 A.M., followed by the mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at 11:30 A.M. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, 162 Irondale St., Elyria. The Rev. Dennis O’Grady and Deacon Edward Dillon will concelebrate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon, where the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
