BREAKING NEWS — Man gets six years in DUI fatal
ELYRIA – Phillip Stern II was sentenced today to six years in prison for killing Sheila Pierce when he rammed her car after fleeing a DUI stop made by Amherst police in 2006.
It wasn`t enough for Pierce`s husband, Allen Pierce, who said after county Common Pleas Judge Edward Zaleski handed down the sentence that he would only have been satisfied with a sentence of 20 years to life.
The maximum Stern, 34, could have received on the DUI, involuntary manslaughter and other charges he pleaded guilty to last year was 15 years.
Stern apologized for fleeing police after he was pulled over about 1:15 a.m. on Sept. 16, 2006. He refused to get out of his pickup and then sped away, blowing through a red light and smashing into the 51-year-old Pierce`s car, killing her instantly.
Zaleski also suspended Stern`s driver`s license for life.
