The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present.  Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

John C. Williams

John C. "Jake" Williams, 80, of Amherst, died Thursday, April 3, 2008 at Community Health Partners, Lorain, following a short illness.

He was born in Lorain, January 20, 1928, to Edward and Rebecca (nee Jones) Williams, and was a graduate of Lorain High School, Class of 1945.

Mr. Williams served in the U.S. Army  during 1946 and 1947. He attended Dyke Spencerian College, Cleveland and began employment at the former U.S. Steel Corporation, Lorain in 1950. He was employed as an industrial engineer and later went on to labor relations, from which he retired in 1988, following 38 years of  working for the steel plant.

His memberships included the U.S. Steel Management Club, where he had been past president, the former Amherst Cotillion, and Amherst Noon Day Club, where he was past president and the current treasurer.

Jake was an avid golfer.  He enjoyed card games, especially poker, jazz music, and most of all, spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving are his children, Beth (Don) Zaworski of Amherst, Becky (Gus) Galdo of Marietta, Georgia, Martha Williams of Provincetown, Massachusetts, John of Cleveland Heights, and Paul (Angela) of Columbus. He was grandfather to Emily Herrmann, J.T. Engelhardt, Donald Zaworski, Gus M. Galdo, and Jake Galdo; great-grandfather of Genne and Carly; and brother of Letty Williams of Amherst, and Jane Nabakowski of Vermilion.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his  beloved wife of 55 years, Genne (nee Sennett), who died September 19, 2004; and sisters, Martha Williams and Mary Marsh.

The family will receive friends at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Avenue, Amherst, Thursday, April 10, 2008 from  4 P.M. until the time of service at 7:30 P.M., with his brother-in-law, Deacon Richard Sennett, officiating. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lorain County Community College Foundation, for the Gen R.N. Memorial Nursing Scholarship, 1005 North Abbe Road, Elyria, OH  44035.
