Alimony put on hold for Avon man shot by wife

ELYRIA — A court order requiring an Avon man to pay $15,000 in spousal support to his wife despite the fact that she was convicted of attempted aggravated murder for shooting him four times has been put on hold.

Joe Palmer, bailiff for county Domestic Relations Judge Debra Boros, said the judge has delayed the order until the next hearing in the divorce case — set for the end of the month — to determine what impact the guilty verdict in Pamela Carrasquillo’s criminal case means.

Herminio Carrasquillo survived the shooting and testified during his estranged wife’s March trial that he recognized her in the flash of gunfire. Pamela Carrasquillo denied shooting her husband as he lay in his bed in his Avon home.

Prosecutors argued during the trial that Pamela Carrasquillo had hoped to receive her husband’s $500,000 life insurance policy, of which she was the only beneficiary.

Herminio Carrasquillo, who is also suing his wife, stopped making payments of $3,000 a month to her about five months ago, according to court documents.

Boros had approved the order, handed down earlier this month by Magistrate Joe Tackett, and had set a June 2 deadline for Herminio Carrasquillo to pay $16,500 — the back support plus legal fees — or face contempt of court charges.

But in light of the conviction, Palmer said, the judge wants to review the case before imposing any penalty. The trial is also set to go forward at the end of the month on the same day as the review hearing.

Pamela Carrasquillo, 53, remains in the county jail. A sentencing date has not been set.
