Watch out: Wicked weather in store

Thunder, lightning, hail and a possible tornado could rake Lorain and surrounding counties this evening as a cold front stirs up trouble, the National Weather Service said.

Meteorologists expect high winds that could cause damage to buildings and trees, with gusts up to 40 mph.

The storms are being riled up by temperatures that have spiked near 75 degrees today, the weather service said.

A line of severe weather is forming now from east of Sandusky to Mount Vernon and will be moving northeast through 6 p.m.

According to forecasters, rainfall in the Lorain area could be very heavy – up to half an inch in a short period.

A sudden drop in temperature while the storms move through could stir up a tornado, they warned.

Temperatures are supposed to fall significantly this weekend, dropping to a low of 29 Sunday night. That might even mean snow showers in the forecast, the weather service said.
