Porter takes second in C-USA golf tourney

Memphis freshman Alexa Porter, an Elyria Catholic grad, overcame tough conditions Wednesday to shoot a 75 and finish tied for second in the Conference USA women’s golf championship at Butterfield Trail Golf Club in El Paso, Texas.
Porter shot a 2-under 34 on the back (her first nine) despite gusting winds. She stumbled a bit on the front, shooting a 41 that included a triple-bogey on the par-5 sixth.
Still, she finished at 10 over after rounds of 73-78-75 (216), six shots behind Tulsa’s Woeri Shin (76-71-73).
