BREAKING NEWS — Elyria teen dies in crash
CARLISLE TWP. —A 15-year-old Elyria boy has died from injuries he received when the car he was riding in slammed into a tree Tuesday.
Joseph Paletta was riding as a passenger around 9 p.m. in a 1999 Oldsmobile Aurora heading east on East River Road when the driver of the car lost control, drove off the left side of the road and overturned, striking several fence posts and a tree, State Highway Patrol troopers reported.
Joseph was taken to EMH Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
Joshua Norman, 17, of Elyria, was driving the car and was taken to Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland where he’s listed in stable condition.
Passenger Kenneth Barnett, 17, of Elyria, was taken to EMH where he was treated and released.
None of the boys appeared to be wearing their seat belts, troopers said.
Speed is a likely contributor to the crash, and drugs are suspected to have also played a factor, according to the patrol.
