Browns: Oberlin’s Schubert invited to rookie minicamp
OBERLIN — Chris Schubert already has plans for the weekend, so don’t bother calling.
The Oberlin High School and Oberlin College star receiver was invited by the Cleveland Browns to attend their rookie minicamp. He doesn’t have a contract, but will be in Berea on a tryout. The players report for camp Thursday and practice Friday through Sunday.
“I got the call yesterday and I was just so excited I started calling everyone I know,” Schubert said. “I am extremely grateful for the opportunity and will hopefully be able to take full advantage of it.”
The minicamp is for the Browns’ five draft picks from the weekend, undrafted free agents and invited tryouts.
Schubert led the Yeomen in catches (60), receiving yards (723), touchdown catches (six) and all-purpose yards (2,041) in 2007. He was first-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference as a receiver and return specialist.
