Park brings in the big dogs
When Cedar Point opens its gates May 10 for its 139th season, visitors will get to schmooze with the world’s most famous beagles.
Snoopy, the signature character of the park’s Peanuts-themed Camp Snoopy, will welcome families alongside Uno, the adorable beagle crowned Best of Show at the 2008 Westminster Kennel Club Show.
“We figured what was better than having two of the world’s most famous beagles on hand?” said Cedar Point spokesman Bryan Edwards.
The two celebrity pooches will highlight the park’s all-new $2.2 million Planet Snoopy, a kids playland that sprang up on the site of the parks’ longtime Peanuts Playground on the main midway.
The area features seven new rides ranging from a mini-teacup spinning ride whose cars resemble Woodstock bird nest to a waterless submarine ride sporting a billboard-like background showing Snoopy and Woodstock exploring the ocean.
“There’ll be cake and ice cream for the kids, and while supplies last, commemorative opening day Planet Snoopy T-shirts,” Edwards said.
Also new for 2008 is a new Peanuts-themed ice show, a new “All Wheels Extreme” show featuring BMX stunt bikers, skateboarders and rollerbladers, and a $3 million makeover of the 187-unit Sandcastle Suites hotel built in 1987. To check out more on Cedar Point, visit www.cedarpoint.com.
