Wellington names new superintendent

WELLINGTON — The Wellington Exempted Village Board of Education voted unanimously Monday night to hire a new superintendent — Bellevue High School Principal Francis R. Scruci.

School board members approved a three-year contract for Scruci. He will earn $92,500 the first year, $95,000 the second year and $97,500 the third year, said Board President Marion Nirode.

Nirode said about 60 people turned out last week for a candidates’ night featuring the three finalists, and Scruci made a very good impression.

“He was a really positive person,” Nirode said. “He’s honest and has a real love of kids.”

Scruci has been principal at Bellevue High since 2003. While at Bellevue, the school earned effective and excellent school ratings, according to his resume.

He also served as an assistant principal and athletic director at Marion Taft Middle School, as a teacher and coach at Shelby High School and at Milan-Edison High School. He and his wife, Cynthia, have two grown sons.

Scruci will start work Aug. 1. He said he and his wife plan to move to Wellington as soon as they sell their home in Bellevue.

He replaces Victor Cardenzana, who is retiring.
