The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present.  Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Anne C. Wenzel

Anne C. Wenzel (nee Cherven), 94, of Vermilion, died at home Saturday, May 10, 2008. She was born June 17, 1913 in Lorain, moving to Vermilion in 1947.

She graduated from Lorain High School. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion and their Altar and Rosary Society, and had also worked as their housekeeper for 12 years. She will also be remembered by the many families whom she babysat for and for the Wenzel fruit and vegetable stand in Vermilion. She was a member of the Vermilion Golden Agers, Amvets Post 22 and the Senior Club at the VFW.

She is survived by her son, Carl (Sharon) Wenzel of Huron; daughters, Mary Ann (Ron) Hatfield of Norwalk, Carol (Carl) Gibson of Clarksfield, Dorothy (Fred) Leber of Norwalk and Irene (Gene) Speer of Seattle, Washington; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert G. Wenzel; parents, Stephen and Mary (nee Kubasak) Cherven; sister, Mary Filisko; and brother, John Cherven.

Friends may call Wednesday, May 14, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion. Closing prayers will be said Thursday, May 15, 2008, at 10:30 A.M. in the funeral home followed by an 11 A.M, Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion. Father Jim Holmer, Pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, OH 44089 or New Life Hospice, 5255 North Abbe Road, Elyria, OH 44035.
