CLEVELAND — An elected Cuyahoga County official has been charged with obscenity for viewing lewd pictures on his computer and he may resign.

County Recorder Patrick O’Malley, a Democrat, was charged in a one-count criminal information filed in federal court in Cleveland. An information often means a plea deal has been reached.

A federal judge in Akron scheduled a hearing Thursday afternoon on the case.

O’Malley told Cleveland TV station WKYC that he was resigning. County commissioners said at midday they hadn’t received any official word. O’Malley’s office, which oversees property records, said there was no announcement.
