For those trying to make their way around Elyria, here’s some advice: Steer clear of state Route 57.
The work to rehab the deteriorated thoroughfare has gotten under way, and it’s created some pretty good traffic backups. At one point today, traffic heading toward Midway Mall in the stretch between Gulf and Abbe roads was backed up nearly the entire length.
In other words, it’s taking a long, long time to get where you need to go.
The road will be single lane on either side for 18 months while the entire surface is gutted and replaced. The project is to end in 2009.
