DETROIT — A high school trip to the Cedar Point amusement park in Ohio was cut short for 200 students when one of them became ill after eating a brownie laced with marijuana, a district official said Thursday.

The annual trip for West Bloomfield High physics students was cut short Wednesday when the student complained of sickness and was taken to a medical facility at the park in Sandusky, Ohio, said Joey Spano of the West Bloomfield School District.

The boy then admitted to having eaten a pot brownie.

Cedar Point officials contacted a school representative as well as the park police. Police wrote a report, but no criminal charges were filed, park spokesman Robin Innes said Thursday.

While administrators believe there were only a few students involved, they decided it was best to bring everyone home early, said Spano, the West Bloomfield district’s director of community relations and education.

“We’re saddened that some students acted inappropriately, and we’ll deal with it according to our school policy,” Spano said.

School administrators were interviewing students and conducting an investigation, she said, adding the police liaison officer probably would be involved.

West Bloomfield Township police said they didn’t have a report on the issue.

The high school is located in the Oakland County township, which is located about 25 miles northwest of Detroit.
