The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

George G. Garretson, 72, of Oberlin, died Saturday, May 17, 2008 at New Life Hospice Residential Center, Lorain. He was born and raised in Geneva, and was a 1954 graduate of Geneva High School.
George enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Germany from 1954 to 1957. Following military service he enrolled and graduated from Bowling Green State University with a master degree in teaching. He taught industrial arts and in the 1960s he started an apprenticeship in Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning.
Upon completing his apprenticeship he was employed at American Standard in Elyria. American Standard was purchased by Tappan and George was their national service director. In 1973 George started a business in Elyria, Genco, which he operated until 1984. He later became a HVAC consultant for Armstrong Inc., Bellvue, which was later sold and became Lenox. He retired from there in 2001.
George had extensive and knowledge in small hit and miss engines, antique tractors and automobiles. George’s current hobbies were restoring Whizzer motorized bicycles, vintage Cushman Motor Scooters, and a 1927 Ford Model T. He was a member of the LaGrange Engine Club, Lorain County Vintage Scooter Club, and Model T Ford Club of America. In the past, he enjoyed sailing on Lake Erie and recreational shooting. He was a private pilot who flew from Lorain County Regional Airport.
Surviving are his children; Cynthia R. Garretson of Elyria, Donald W. (Constance M. Kenny) Garretson of Amherst Township, Eric J. Garretson of Canal Fulton; grandchildren; Jacob, Corey and Taylor Garretson; sister, Joyce Ross of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by his former wife, Beatrice Garretson; and his parents, Donald S. and Mary (nee Palma) Garretson.
Family will receive friends at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Avenue, Amherst, Wednesday, May 21, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. The funeral service will be at 10 A.M. Thursday, May 22, 2008, at the funeral home with Elder James Wells of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Elyria, officiating. A reception will follow. A private family burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Geneva, OH. Memorials may be made to New Life Hospice (for the Memorial Walk and Garden), 5255 North Abbe Road, Elyria, OH 44035.
