The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present.  Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Richard L. Gibbens

Richard L. Gibbens, 79, of Grafton and formerly of Elyria, died Sunday, May 25, 2008, at his home, following a long battle with cancer. He was born January 11, 1929, in Wooster and lived in the Elyria area most of his life.

Mr. Gibbens worked as a plumber, retiring from Gross Plumbing in Lorain.

He served with the Army during the Korean Conflict, was a former member of SPEBSQA, and enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include his daughters, Terri Wells of Grafton, and Denise Williams and Becky Gibbens, both of Elyria; son, Tim Gibbens of North Ridgeville; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Dot Francisco of New York; brothers, Bill Gibbens of Nevada and Don Gibbens of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor, September 18, 2004.

Friends may call 4 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2008, until a 6 p.m. memorial service at Bauer-Laubenthal Funeral Home, Chestnut Ridge Road at state Route 57, Elyria. Burial will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 43099 North Ridge Road, Elyria, OH 44035.
