Teens hurt in crash improving

CLEVELAND – All three teens hospitalized Thursday after a crash with a tractor-trailer on state Route 301 have been upgraded from critical condition.

Phyllis Harman, spokeswoman for MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, said Katie O’Brien of Columbia Township is now in fair condition. A nursing supervisor said O’Brien had been “extremely critical” late Thursday.

Lauren Bigler, 17, also of Columbia Township, remains in good condition at the hospital.

The third teenager, Tara Gorman, was released Thursday night, nurses said.

No charges have been filed in the crash, which remains under investigation by the Ohio Highway Patrol.

State troopers said Bigler was driving a minivan at 11:39 a.m. and collided with a Peterbilt semi driven by Timothy J. Ingraham, 42, of West Salem. Ingraham was hauling 24 tons of sand.

The semi crushed the side of the minivan and pushed it about 500 feet through the front yards of two houses.

Two other passengers in Bigler’s van – 16-year-old Craig Lupinski of LaGrange and 15-year-old Kateland Kacic on Wellington – had minor injuries and were treated and released from EMH Regional Medical Center.
