N. Canton Hoover beats Elyria for state title

The Elyria Pioneers have to settle for being Division I state runnersup for the third straight year.
Third baseman Erin Riccardi singled in McKenna Russ from second in the bottom of the 10th to give North Canton Hoover a 1-0 win and the Division I state championship.
The Pioneers finish the season 28-2. Hoover wins it at 32-2.
With the game scoreless, Elyria’s Megan Bashak opened the 10th with a single and advanced to second when the ball rolled by Hoover’s outfielder. But the Pioneers could not bring her around.
Tess Sito went the distance, striking out 14 in a game that lasted almost two hours.
