ELYRIA — A 31-year-old Elyria Township man was charged with kidnapping and felonious assault after firing a shot at an Elyria woman Monday night and forcing another woman into his car, police said.
Daryl W. Jackson, of Hall Road, turned himself in at about 3 a.m. today at a residence on Garden Avenue in Lorain, said Elyria police Lt. Andy Eichenlaub. He was being held on a $200,000 bond after appearing today before Elyria Municipal Judge Lisa Locke Graves.
Eichenlaub said the incident started in Elyria when Jackson fired a shot at Carol Forland, 52, at 9:22 p.m. while they were at Blake Street and then forced Tonya Brown, 34, to leave with him, Eichenlaub said. The women both lived a few houses away from where the shooting occurred, Eichenlaub said.
Police started hunting for Jackson, and they surrounded a home on Hall Road in Elyria Township late Monday night, but they later learned he was not there. Police got the Ohio Fugitive Task Force to help in hunting for Jackson, but as the search was ongoing, he called and said he wanted to turn himself in.
At that point, Brown no longer was with Jackson, Eichenlaub said, and he wasn’t aware of her condition or where she ended up.
