Drunken driver sued by family of man killed in accident

ELYRIA — The family of a Wakeman man killed in a 2006 crash is suing the drunken driver of the truck in which he was riding.

The family of 22-year-old Zachariah Hurn filed the lawsuit Monday in Lorain County Common Pleas Court against Anthony Bowe, 24, who is serving a two-year prison term for the crash.

Hurn and Bowe were riding in a 1985 Dodge Ram on June 18, 2006, when the truck ran off Quarry Road and struck two trees. Hurn died at the hospital a short time later.

Bowe, who had a blood alcohol level of 0.13, well above the legal limit, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide and DUI charges in the case. He apologized to Hurn’s family at his sentencing.

The lawsuit accuses Bowe of negligence and demands more than $25,000 in damages.
