Men flung from SUV after it flips 3 times
BROWNHELM TWP. — Fish, handtools and mangled Jeep parts littered the roadside Tuesday night after a Grand Cherokee rolled three times and threw two men 10 yards from the vehicle.
Michael King, 27, of Lorain, was driving the sport utility vehicle south about 9:40 p.m. on Gore Orphanage Road when he veered off the right side of the pavement, bounced through a ditch, hit a utility pole and flipped, Ohio Highway Patrol Trooper Lance Deshuk said.
Both men were thrown out of the vehicle and landed about 30 feet away, Deshuk said. A large amount of blood had pooled in a ditch near the road.
King and a passenger, who had not been identified early this morning, were taken to Allen Community Hospital in Oberlin and then flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.
Deshuk said one of the men had appeared generally battered, while the other had a broken leg and large cuts.
It wasn’t clear late Tuesday which man had which injuries.
The men were apparently heading back from a fishing trip when King lost control on a curve near Portman Road and went more than 450 feet off the blacktop, Deshuk said.
He said alcohol or speed likely played a role in the crash.
