The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Michael James Veres, 68, of Amherst, passed away Monday, June 16, 2008 at University Hospital in Cleveland, following a sudden illness. He was born July 20, 1939 in Elyria Township, raised in Elyria and graduated from Clearview High School with the class of 1957. Amherst had been his home for the last 40 years.
Michael served with United States Army and the Coast Guard Auxiliary where he served as Post Commander. He was employed with Barber Motors in Elyria for 27 years, leaving as service director. He was employed with Invacare in Elyria for 10 years, retiring in 2004 as a brazier.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren, great grandchildren and being on the water. An avid wood carver, his talent was found in his handiwork and scroll sawing. Michael was committed to enhancing the lives of his family and community, and demonstrated that commitment in death by becoming an organ donor.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Virginia M. Veres (nee Young); three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Janet Veres, May 4, 2008; his parents, Mike and Josephine Veres (nee Ondulich); brother, Adam Veres as an infant; and sister, Nancy Lee Bainbridge in 2007.
Funeral services were held privately by the family.
