ELYRIA — Bobby Clampett will bring his soothing voice, informed opinions and friendly personality to Lorain County for the second straight year.
Clampett, a PGA Tour pro and television commentator, will return as the guest pro for the Lorain County Community College/Jack Nicklaus Scholarship Golf Benefit on Monday, Aug. 11, at Elyria Country Club. Inclement weather prevented Clampett from mingling with the golfers and giving his clinic last year.
Clampett works for CBS, TBS and The Golf Channel. He may be best-known for his comments from the 12th hole at Augusta National during the Masters. Clampett is also a golf course designer and author and is beginning a return to competitive golf in preparation of joining the Champions Tour in 2010.
This could be a big year for the Jack Nicklaus Scholarship Fund, which is celebrating the 18th year of the golf fundraiser. The scholarship committee set a goal of raising $75,000, which would bring the endowed fund to $1 million and make it the largest endowed scholarship fund managed by the LCCC Foundation.
A fund of that size could help more than 20 students with tuition support for a full year. In its 17 years, more than $400,000 has been distributed to students in need.
A single-golfer package includes 18 holes, cart, goodie bag, hot buffet breakfast, lunch, beverages and snacks on the course, cocktail and hors d’oeuvre reception, admission to the clinic, the chance to win a car on each of the par 3s and the chance to qualify for the Million Dollar Shoot-Out. Cost is $600. There are also sponsorships available.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., with breakfast at 8 and a shotgun start at 9:30.
For more information, call 366-4039 or go to www.lorainccc.edu/golf. The benefit is sponsored by First Place Bank.
