The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present.  Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Bernard A. Jankowski

Bernard A. Jankowski, 89, of Avon, died Friday, June 20, 2008 at The North Ridge Health Center, North Ridgeville.  He was born August 24, 1918 in Lorain, and had lived in Avon since 1950.
He was a retired steel worker and barber. He was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Avon, where he was an usher. He enjoyed gardening, baseball, golfing, and football.
"Bruno" served in the U.S. Army during WW II, and was one of four survivors of the 337th, 101st Airborne Division Screaming Eagles. He was a heavy machine gunner and a prisoner of war, fighting in the Normandy-France Invasion, the Battle of the Bulge, and in Austria, Holland and Ardennes. Among the many citations received, he was awarded the bronze star, the purple heart, the prisoner of war medal, the good conduct medal, the American Campaign medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern campaign medal, the WW II Victory medal and the Presidential Unit Citation with Oak Leaf.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Josephine M. (nee Miller); sons, Bernard Jr. of Elyria, and Greg of Avon; daughters, Sandra Buckosh of Sheffield Township, and Marlene Imburgia of Cuyahoga Falls; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and brother, Frank Jankowski of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty (nee Kovacevich); and siblings, Josephine, Stella, Mary, Hank, Edward, and Anthony.
Friends will be received Monday, June 23, 2003 from 4 to 8 P.M. at the Misencik Funeral Home, 36363 Detroit Rd., Avon, where closing prayers will be Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at 9:15 A.M., followed by a 10 A.M. Mass at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Avon. The Rev. Arthur Egan, Pastor Emeritus, will officiate. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Avon.
