The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Joyce R. Friedel (nee Raynovich), 63, of Avon Lake, died at her residence June 20, 2008, following a brief illness. She was born in Lorain March 30, 1945 and had been a resident of Avon Lake for the past 30 years.
Joyce was a graduate of Lorain High School as a member of the class of 1963. She attended Kent State University where she received her Bachelors of Science degree in Education and later completed course work which earned her a Master’s degree in Counseling from the University of Akron.
She was employed as an elementary school teacher for the Avon Lake City Schools for 13 years at Redwood Elementary School. She later served as a substitute teacher throughout greater Lorain County.
Mrs. Friedel was a member of Saint George Serbian Orthodox Church in Lorain, where she was active with the Women’s Circle and a host of other church activities.
She enjoyed participating in the Mighty Goliath Players community theater productions. Additional interests included her devoting herself to her family as well as attending water aerobics sessions at the EMH Health and Fitness Center.
Survivors include her husband of 29 years David; daughter, Karen Friedel of Aurora; son, Craig of Avon Lake; granddaughter, Natalie Zingale of Aurora; and sisters, Mrs. Mike (Mary Ann) Radanovich of Lorain, Mrs. Ron (Lois) Poltrone of Avon Lake, and Mrs. Alan (Joan) Miller of Medina.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Nellie (nee Zunich) Raynovich.
Friends may call Monday, June 23, 2008 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain, where a Pomen service will be conducted at 6 P.M. Additional visitation will be observed in Saint George Serbian Orthodox Church Tuesday, June 24, 2008 from 9:30 A.M.until time of services at 10 A.M. The Reverend Milorad Orlich, Pastor of the church, will preside. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
The family encourages memorial contributions to the Handi-Camp of Avon Lake or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
