PFC Gregory A. James Jr., 20, of Elyria, died unexpectedly Sunday, June 15, 2008 in Fort Hood, Texas. He was born February 11, 1988 in Elyria, where he was a lifelong resident. He was a member of the U.S. Army and was attached to Company E. 1st Battalion 227th Aviation Brigade 1st ACB. He enjoyed computers, skateboarding, and his brother’s music.
He is survived by his wife, Davie R. (nee Hamrick) of Elyria; mother, Christine M. Wagner-Deitcher; step-father, Larry D. Deitcher; father, Gregory A. James, Sr. of Youngstown; brother, Robert W. James of Lorain; grandparents, Robert F. and Janet M. (nee Willis) Wagner of Elyria; great-grandmother, Mildred M. Wagner of Elyria; mother-in-law, Rebecca L. Sutphin (nee Hamrick) of Oberlin; two nephews; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, William E. and Dorothy M. (nee Townsend) James.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Monday, June 23, 2008 at the Bauer-Laubenthal Funeral Home, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. in Elyria, (440) 322-4626. Funeral services will be at 11 A.M. Tuesday, June 24, 2008. Minister Ernie Cato will officiate. Burial will be at Brookdale Cemetery with full military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family, c/o the Bauer-Laubenthal Funeral home.
